Urgent Royal Mail Strike Update: Postal strikes in the U.K. cancelled

Communication Workers Union (CWU) has cancelled the planned nationwide strike actions for Friday, November 6 and Monday November, 9. All mail services will operate normally.

CWU and Royal Mail have reached an interim agreement that was unanimously agreed upon by the union's Postal Executive on November 5. The interim agreement will provide a period of calm for the CWU and Royal Mail to reach a full and final agreement. The interim agreement guarantees that modernization will be introduced with job security and improved terms and conditions for postal workers. It also addresses issues included in the long running local disputes.

However, it is important to note that the strike ballot remains in place.

Royal Mail is now concentrating their efforts and resources on returning mail services to normal in all areas and delivering the best possible service to our customers in the weeks before the upcoming holiday season.

Royal Mail strike

Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) were unable to reach a mutual agreement to avoid a nationwide strike and the CWU has therefore announced its intention to move forward with the industrial action. The strikes that were announced on October 15 are to commence on October 22, in line with the seven-day advance notice the CWU is required to provide Royal Mail.

At present, two 24-hour nationwide strikes have been announced. The first, scheduled to take place Thursday, October 22, will consist of mail centre staff and drivers. On Friday October 23, delivery and collection staff will go on strike. In this way, it is important to note that not all CWU members will participate in the industrial action simultaneously.
